Job Summary

The Welder will be primarily responsible for manufacturing equipment and components by performing duties such as reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, preparing raw materials, welding pipe and structural steel assemblies, quality assurance and quality control inspections, and assembly of components.

The ideal candidate will be very knowledgeable in various welding processes and will have worked previously in a Fabrication or Manufacturing environment. The candidate should have a strong work ethic, be highly motivated, and be familiar with working in high paced shop environments to meet strict deadlines.

Essential Duties

  • Read, interpret, and follow fabrication drawings, specifications, weld symbols, bills of material, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately fabricate equipment and products.
  • Manage set-up and operation of saw, grinder, cutting torch, drill, and other tools necessary to cut and prepare raw materials.
  • Control set-up, laying out work using jigs and/or fixtures or hand layouts to fabricate assemblies, or rework finished products.
  • Understand how to properly complete various welding tasks such as cutting structural steel and pipe to length; cope and bevel structural steel by utilizing proper weld joint prepping; drilling holes in pipe and structural steel; and pipe beveling.
  • Weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions.
  • Complete other project fabrication tasks such as tube bending and non-metallic pipe fabrication.
  • Carry out assembly of equipment and components per engineering drawings by way of setting equipment on skid frame and installation of pipe spools, tube runs, valves and pipe specialties.
  • Operate various machinery and tools in shop such as forklifts, hoist, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torch, and others related to the job?s needs.
  • Perform project in-process and final quality product checks; Communicate any concerns or issues with Fabrication Manager and appropriate team members as necessary.
  • Prioritize workflow through effective communication with management staff.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 to 5 years of fabrication experience as welder or pipefitter
  • Must have knowledge of welding processes (i.e. GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW)
  • Qualified or ability to qualify to weld in accordance with ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and AWS D1.1
  • Ability to read fabrication prints and recognize welding symbols and specifications
  • Strong basic math skills and competent mechanical aptitude
  • Proven ability to perform tasks accurately while being thorough throughout projects
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with welding equipment such as torches, torch tips, filler rods, flux, hoses, valves, and gas cylinders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with exemplary interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability as a critical thinker with great organization skills, and extreme attention to detail
  • Highly self-motivated individual that is a quick learner, takes initiative, and can think on their feet
  • Tenacious follow-up skills, and robust time management skills with the ability to prioritize while working under strict deadlines
  • Willingness to cross-train and perform the tasks of other Fabrication Facility roles in addition to the primary assigned position.
  • Knowledge of industry and OSHA safety practices
  • Valid Driver?s License and satisfactory driving record
  • Can regularly lift up to 100 pounds

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Welding/Fabrication Technical Diploma or other similar formal training
  • Experience as a Millwright, Pipefitter, or in the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) trades
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and Confined Space Training, and other relevant safety training certificates
  • Certified to operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, jib cranes, and manlifts
